Soldiers, armoured vehicles take control of Rivers Gov’t house amid State of Emergency
In the wake of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State last night, the Nigerian military has swiftly mobilised, deploying armored vehicles to seize control of the State’s Government House.
As of this report, the whereabouts of Governor Siminalayi Fubara remain unknown.
The situation unfolded rapidly, with military convoys and heavy trucks seen moving into the Government House, while locals hurriedly sought shelter, concerned about the possibility of unrest.
Eyewitnesses reported that approximately 10 military trucks, including armored vehicles, were stationed at key intersections surrounding the Government House.
The normally bustling streets of the area quickly emptied as residents fled, trying to avoid any potential clashes.
A source within the Government House, speaking on condition of anonymity to Nigerian Tribune, revealed that Governor Fubara was last seen around 5:00 p.m. yesterday, following an emergency State Executive Council meeting.
However, military presence increased shortly afterward, with vehicles patrolling the area, adding to the confusion about the governor’s current status.
Uncertainty looms over whether Governor Fubara has vacated the premises or if Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Anas, the Sole Administrator, has taken control in the wake of the emergency.
