78,000 bags phones stolen in London – UK Pastor reacts to Kemi Badenoch’s criticisms about Nigeria
Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, founder of SPAC Nation (Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church), has publicly expressed his disagreement with recent remarks made by Kemi Badenoch, the UK’s opposition leader, regarding Nigeria.
Badenoch, who has been vocal about her views on Nigeria, recently shared a particularly negative experience during an interview with ‘The Free Press’, a US-based media outlet.
She recounted a troubling encounter with the Nigerian police, claiming officers stole her brother’s watch and shoes, describing the ordeal as “unforgettable.”
Her comments sparked backlash from many Nigerians, including a sharp response from Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who criticised her portrayal of the country.
In response, Pastor Adegboyega took to Channels Television to defend Nigeria, emphasizing that the situation is not as bleak as Badenoch has suggested, urging a more balanced perspective on the country’s realities.
On what he makes of Badenoch’s statements and commentaries about Nigeria, Adegboyega said,
“I completely disagree with her statement. In 2023, 2024, 78,000 bags were snatched. 78,000 phones snatched in the UK in London. So I disagree with the statement.
“There is a very strong Nigerian black community in the UK. People who have been fighting for people like the leader of the opposition that you just mentioned to get to that position.
“We know what’s going on. Do you know that prisons have more black young people than schools in the UK?
“So there are more young black people in prisons in the UK, in most mental hospitals we have more young black people than in schools.
“So yes, our country has its own issues, but it’s definitely not true what the leader of the opposition is saying.”
