Police operatives attached to the Ogun State Command have apprehended a man identified as Rexlawson Jonson over the gruesome murder of his 26 years old girlfriend, Patricia John.
CRIMECHANNELS learnt that the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made this disclosure in a statement on Monday.
The arrest of the suspect, according to Oyeyemi, followed a report by one Adebayo Aladesuyi who is a manager of Molayo Hotel, Ibafo in Ogun state.
Oyeyemi said the Manager raised alarm upon discovering the corpse while he was carrying out a routine check on the facility.
He said the deceased female had marks all over her neck, which appeared she was likely strangled by her assailant.
“On the strength of the report, the DPO Ibafo division Csp Jide Joshua led his detectives to the scene and recovered the corpse to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Shagamu for post mortem examination, ” Oyeyemi said.
Oyeyemi also said that investigations showed that the woman had entered the hotel with a man, but that the man sneaked out after killing her.
He said that upon this discovery, the DPO and some of his men, carried out an intelligence based investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect.
While he was being interrogated, he confessed checking into the hotel with the deceased, he also said that they had a falling out which led to him putting hands on his girlfriend, eventually killing her in the process.
Oyeyemi said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department (CIID) for further investigation.
Oyeyemi also urged people in the hotel business to always keep a manifest in their possession, adding that in a situation of homicide committed in a hotel, the Police can always look at the manifest book, and trace the suspect.
