2023 Presidency: Ohanaeze, Igbo Leaders to meet over emergence of Atiku, Tinubu

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has finalized arrangements to meet with Igbo thought leaders in response to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) failing to zone their presidential tickets to the South-East.

At the parties’ conventions, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged as the PDP’s presidential candidate, while Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu emerged as the APC’s presidential candidate.

Igbo leaders are unhappy that the two major political parties have denied the South-East the opportunity to run for president in 2023, according to an executive member of Ohanaeze who spoke on the condition of anonymity to newsmen.

The Ohanaeze leadership will brief the Igbo leaders on their attempts to urge the two parties to award their presidential tickets to aspirants from the South-East during the meeting, according to the source.

Igbo leaders would also debate on the rise of Atiku and Tinubu, according to the source, and choose one candidate to support or not support.

He also stated that the Igbo leaders will decide whether or not to persuade the South-easterners to vote for Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State who is now the Labour Party’s candidate (LP).

“Ohanaeze and Igbo leaders of thought will have a meeting soon. After the meeting we will take a stand on the presidential primaries of the PDP and APC,” the source said.
